In 1990 STAM supplied to VOLVO (Sweden) the first in the world flexible and automatic Rollforming line for the production of truck chassis side beams.
Prior to this, truck beams were made on presses, requiring the use of very expensive tools which were totally inflexible. The press method also has limitations when using high tensile steel.
Since then all the long chassis beams for trucks used by the most important manufacturers are produced on STAM rollforming lines. The lines are equipped with a range of NC adjustments and changeover functions enabling changeover from one profile to another to be completed in a set up time of less than 4 minutes. The profile thickness can range from 4 to 12 mm. The rollforming speed is up to 24 m/min.
As a result of the excellent performance of these lines, STAM has
remained worldwide leader in this field and roll formed truck chassis side
beams are gradually replacing beams produced by the traditional press method.
The lines can be completed with additional sections realizing all the stages of
the manufacturing process, where Stam can play a role of global supplier.
The use of high tensile steel for automotive body and chassis components
is fast increasing.
STAM has many years of experience in the development and supply of Rollforming
lines for automotive parts as structural profiles, bumpers and slide rails for
door windows. These lines generally include features such as cutting-to-length
devices, welding station, curving technology, etc.
STAM lines are used for body panels for trucks and trailers. As in the
case of other products, the key features are efficiency, economy, precision and
high productivity.
The producers of rollformed profiles are increasingly interested in
producing variable section profiles, in addition to a high level of
flexibility.
The design of several vehicle chassis and body components require
variable sections to meet structural or aesthetic requirements.
The U or C-section profiles differ along the length, changing from the front end to the middle and again to the back end. To meet this requirement the individual stands of the rollforming machine are independently movable. Each stand is equipped with its drive motor for the rolls and has a flexible positioning by means of other numerically controlled motorgears. In this way a wide range of workpieces can be manufactured using the same set of rolls.
